Opportunities are all around us, there are many chances for all of us to get in on certain ventures before they boom, and or buy investments at the right time and hold them long term.
Today we are going to discuss one of those opportunities and what you can do to prepare for the next one. The stock market is known to have its ups and downs and we all know that everyone wants to get in when its low and sell when its high, but are we ready to act when the right opportunity comes along?
One recent opportunity that comes to mind is the banking industry and its major losses. With major losses came the major stock price losses that drove some of the biggest banks to record low stock prices. Bank of America was selling for $2 and Citi for $0.44 for an entire day. These prices seemed too good to be true and yet were not fully taken advantage of due to the fear that doomed wall street and the lack of confidence that existed in government, which was the reason prices had dropped. People were afraid so no one was willing to invest in the market.
With the stock market, risk is everything. The idea is that you need to be able to asses risk and be able to move fast.
I cannot tell you to invest or to not invest in a specific stock, but here is something you should consider, being ready to act when others are afraid is the key to making money in a bad economy. Many opportunities will arise and many will be based on how fast you are ready to act. To be ready means to be ready to act and therefore here is what I can advise you to do.
Take money you wanted to invest, open an account with a trading company like E Trade or TD Ameritrade and put your money in a no fee money market, this will give you the ability to act when the right opportunity comes along. If you wait, then you run into a timing issue, as most of these venues are online, it takes time to transfer money and therefore might take you 2-3 days before you are ready to act.
